2023 in Review

2023 was a monumental year for Generation Park. Laying the foundation for the future and capturing the vision we set forth when Generation Park first began. Here are the projects that made a big impact in 2023.

Construction of Generation Parkway

In mid-March we saw our namesake road, Generation Parkway take shape with the first pour of concrete. The first road segment is complete, connecting Lockwood Rd and W. Lake Houston Parkway, and provides access to Centris Industrial’s 1MM SF cross dock facility, the 65 acre BioHub Two campus, and the future home of HTX Surf.

An important part of this infrastructure expansion is the addition of more trails and beautiful navigable lakes.

Eventually, Generation Parkway will span from the western edge of Generation Park all the way to Deussen Park and Lake Houston on the east.

Target’s Massive 1.4MM SF Distribution Facility Goes Vertical

In early April, Panattoni began construction began on Target’s massive 1.4MM SF distribution facility! The facility is located in Generation Park’s Urban Fulfillment Center (UFC) and will join an ever growing list of companies moving to the Lake Houston Area. The facility is scheduled for completion in 2024.

BioHub Two Announced

In October, we announced plans for BioHub Two, an up to 60 acre master-planned biomanufacturing campus. The campus can host over 1 million square feet of cGMP manufacturing, lab, and office space located in Generation Park. Alongside, a 5-acre green space with freestanding opportunities for small-format restaurants and cafes.

Center for Biotechnology Announced at San Jacinto College

Mid-October, San Jacinto College announced the Center for Biotechnology in partnership with the National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT), making San Jacinto College the exclusive provider of NIBRT-licensed training in the southern part of the United States. The Center for Biotechnology will offer students hands-on experience in a pilot-scale bioprocessing center that includes upstream, downstream, and fill-finish facilities.

Centris Industrial’s 255k SF & 1MM SF Facilities Go Vertical

Centris Industrial was hard at work building two new for lease industrial facilities at Generation Park. In October, Centris completed construction of their 255k SF facility, located on West Lake Houston Parkway, just south of Generation Parkway, and is now ready for occupancy.

They are also building a 1MM SF facility, located on Generation Parkway, between Lockwood and W. Lake Houston Parkway is scheduled to be completed the first half of this year.

Both facilities have access to the pedestrian superhighway, The Ray, spanning 4 miles. Granting employees access to nearby restaurants, shops, and other amenities without having to get in their car.

McCord Restores Native Plants to Generation Park

In November, McCord announced their native plant restoration efforts for Generation Park. The initiative is driven by visually captivating landscaping, aiming to naturalize open spaces and enhancing biodiversity. These plants should thrive in the extreme swings of weather the Gulf Coast has to offer.

One of the first sites for the project is Grandfather’s Lake, with a goal of surrounding the lake with luscious flowers that will help create a natural and native ecosystem. Complimented with walking trails, Grandfather’s Lake is aiming to be Generation Park’s newest recreational site.
