Higher Education

Lone Star College

Lone Star College-Kingwood had its start in 1972 when seeds for the North Harris Montgomery Community College District, now Lone Star College System, was planted. Located on 273 beautifully landscaped wooded acres, the East Campus, as LSC-Kingwood was known in those days, opened its doors in 1984 to approximately 1,000 students. Today, it is the educational institution of choice for nearly 13,000 students!

A member of the Lone Star College System, LSC-Kingwood’s mission is to help people reach their educational goals while showing them the benefits of getting involved on and off campus. The college offers students a variety of educational courses and programs such as credit classes, university transfer courses, career and vocational programs, and distance learning, as well as an extensive Continuing Education (CE) programs for youths and adults. These programs prepare students for the workforce or to transfer to a four-year university.

In addition to the main campus, LSC-Kingwood has three satellite locations. The East Montgomery County Improvement District, in New Caney, is the site of the college’s Academy for Lifelong Learning (ALL); a program geared for adults age 50 and older. The Lone Star College-Atascocita Center, which opened in 2011, provides the community with local access to services, college courses and programs, workforce training, and leisure learning. It is also the temporary location for the new Process Technology Program. In fall 2017, LSC-Kingwood will open its LSC-Process Technology Center, located on Lockwood Road in Generation Park. The 40,000 square-foot facility will house the Process Technology Program, which will prepare graduates for entry-level careers as process technologists/operators in petrochemical, plastics, food and beverage and pharmaceutical industries.
